Fly - Ladybird Orchestra

Jazz sextet Ladybird Orchestra plays melodic jazz with catchy melodies and expressive lyrics, but is also completely unafraid of solid, exploratory improvisation.

The band started as a songwriting collaboration between vocalist Lisbeth-Anita Grimsø Olsen and pianist Liv Andrea Hauge in 2016. After working as a duo for a year, they wanted to test the song material with some of their favorite musicians, a band that would later become the Ladybird Orchestra : bassist Karl-Erik Horndalsveen, tenor saxophonist Runa Husøy, alto saxophonist John Rune Jakobsen and drummer Veslemøy Narvesen. Together they create songs at the crossroads where the composed meets the free. With musicians from bands such as Kongle Trio, Mall girl, Damata, Ensemble Eliassen and Bye Lila, the band draws inspiration from diverse musical sources.

The band has played on various jazz stages, such as Victoria and Herr Nilsen, and in the spring of 2020, the band was selected as one of eight bands to participate in the Norwegian Jazz Forum's competition Jazzintro. "Fly", their debut album was recorded at Ocean Sound in Giske, and tells stories of wonder, journeys through the jungle and the garden, taxi rides and lost love.
